HOW TO PARTY SOBER THIS CHRISTMAS

The Christmas season and new year celebrations are soon approaching, the time of the year which is oriented around parties, socialising, and enjoyment. All which people feel they can’t be a part of unless they drink. This is not true, there are many ways to enjoy and have fun when celebrating sober over the festive season.

BE YOURSELF

People are going to question why you’re not drinking; how can you have fun without alcohol? are you boring? And as you probably know, the list of questions goes on. Having a straight answer in reply, whether it’s simply I’m driving, health reason or I don’t like alcohol. An answer will stop constant questions and allow you to get on and enjoy the night.

DRINK NON-ALCOHOLIC COCKTAILS

No and Low drinks are becoming a new trend and because of this many bars, clubs and parties will have non-alcoholic alternatives. Move away from boring soft drinks and experiment with Christmas non-alcoholic cocktails, having a fancy cocktail will make you feel more involved in the party. Borrago non-alcoholic cocktails are a great replacement.

HIT THE DANCE FLOOR

Just because you are staying off the booze doesn’t mean you cannot get involved and have fun. Remember you will probably be the only person who remembers the night, so make the most if it!

SHOW PEOPLE YOU ARE HAVING FUN

If you are having fun and embracing the party, let people know. People are more likely to involve you and make you feel welcome regardless if you are drinking or not. Whereas sitting in a corner not enjoying yourself because you are sober, is more likely to get you left out.

OFFER TO HELP THE HOST

If you find yourself out of place, see if there is anything you can do to help. This will keep you busy and will give you another opportunity to chat to people.

BRING A SOBER FRIEND

If you are worried about heading to a party over the festive season and not being able to drink, see if you can bring a sober friend along. This will allow you to feel more comfortable and encourage you to be yourself.

ENJOY THE COMPANY OF OTHERS

Alcohol makes people feel euphoric and less anxious, making people easier to chat to. Use this opportunity to talk to everyone at the party, I’m sure there will be many previous New Year’s Eve stories people will be willing to tell you.

JUST WATCH

This may sound boring now, but you’ll be surprised how entertaining it can be. From examining the worst Christmas jumper to drunkest person in the room. People watching can bring great entertainment to your night.

DON’T FEEL PRESSURED TO GO

If the event is extremely alcohol orientated and you don’t feel comfortable going, then don’t! Do not feel ashamed. Make your apologies and consider other option where you will enjoy yourself. Everyone drops out of parties last minute due to a variety of reasons. It does not make you a boring sober. In fact, the complete opposite, clever and knowledgeable of your own judgments.

LASTLY HAVE FUN

If you have spent time organising and getting ready to go out and celebrate, go and have fun! It is the festive season and all the above tips will help make sure you have a wonderful and enjoyable night.
